What to Verify Before Upgrading to PostgreSQL 10

Considerations for Implementing PostgreSQL 10 in an Enterprise Environment

The primary limitation of logical replication in version 10 is that it does not replicate DDL commands, sequences, or large objects. This means that structural changes to tables must be accompanied by the synchronized application of SQL scripts (migrations) to all system nodes. Initial data synchronization is performed automatically when a subscription is created, but for mission-critical systems, you must verify data integrity using checksums. When configuring logical replication, keep in mind that each table must have a Replica Identity (usually via a Primary Key) to function correctly. Before migrating, ensure that all third-party extensions and client libraries support the updated SCRAM-SHA-256 authentication mechanism and the new DBMS versioning scheme.
